Review: PBR Magazine test drives the Cobra Nautique
Powerboat & RIB Magazine recently took the Cobra Nautique 8.2m out on the water and shared their thoughts in a full, detailed review.
The Nautique range
The Nautique range is built on what we call the ‘Evolution’ hull – a development of the original Dave Picton 7.5m hull. The hull design channels water beneath the boat, improving performance and ride. As well as providing a drier ride, the hull design increases efficiency by around 5% while enhancing stability in tight turns.
Designed with safety and comfort as top priorities, PBR Magazine noted that the helm set-up of the Nautique offers a “perfect balance of comfort, ergonomics and seating position”.
The seats are gas-assisted sprung seats with concealed suspension units built-in, providing around 2in of travel. PBR added that the seat buckets offered reassuring hold and that the footboard is angled and located perfectly.
Other features that stood out to PBR:
- Console design that can be built with either a left-hand or right-hand helm position for choice and comfort
- Centrally located Garmin multifunction display that controls everything, including the Fusion hi-fi
- Conveniently located engine display that makes it easy to keep an eye on the tachometer and engine trim level
Attention to detail
The backs of the helm seats offer three neatly lined storage compartments. The top compartment comes equipped with a phone-charging socket, so you can leave your phone to charge safely in a waterproof compartment.
PBR was particularly impressed with the optional extra that came on their test boat: a built-in DC powered Dometic chiller compartment featuring two wine bottle racks.
They added that this was “a perfect example of the behind-the-scenes attention to detail that [Cobra] is known for”.
“Robust construction and soft-riding hull”
In terms of driving, PBR reported that the hull is “well balanced and responsive to the wheel” and kept steady when thrown into hard turns.
The twin counter-rotating propeller outboard engine “grips the water in a dogged manner” and provides “superb acceleration and mid-range response”.
The verdict
PBR Magazine concluded that the Cobra Nautique 8.2 offers well-thought-out helm ergonomics, a reassuringly steady ride, and superb fit and finish.
